It's Easy to Fall in Love with a Writer

It's easy to fall in love with a writer.
1. What gets you first is the mystique. That pensive, if wistful, sparkle in his eyes. Always in deep thought. He's a puzzle. You have no idea what fantasmagoric things are going on inside his head. This excites you.
2. He finds solace in solitude. He is at peace with himself.  You know he isn't going to be overly attached, clingy. You never have to worry about personal space.
3. He sees beauty in the most everyday things. He draws inspiration from the strangest places. Creates something out of practically nothing, isn't that charming? Kaleidoscope vision.
4. He's passionate about what he's doing. He'd rather starve than sell-out and get a real job in the real world.
5. There's always that tortured soul bit. You're thinking, maybe, maybe you could be the one to change him.
6. He writes for you. There's that. You're his muse.

Now, staying in love with a writer. That's the hard part.
When the foundation of a love starts to crack, pretty soon everything else comes toppling down. Ah, the inevitable.
1. Once the shroud of exhilarating mystery is lifted, it's all downhill from there. He's cold and aloof. He's a puzzle. You have no idea what horrific things are going on inside his head. This scares and frustrates you shitless.
2. He enjoys isolation way too much. He's detached, mind in regular fugue. You have a distinct feeling that he enjoys the company he daydreams more than yours.
3. He sees beauty in everything. Everything. Seeing him stare intently at disintegrating clouds for long periods of time would be routine.
4. "He's passionate", you'll soon find out, translates to "he's stubborn and broke".
5. He doesn't need you to change him. He already has a cure for all the torment. It's called alcohol.
6. He writes about you. And won't let you read it. Or even tell you about it. There's that. You're his hostage.
